$600 for individuals, $1200 for WORKING couples. Do both have to work?

I have been told couples '; married filing jointly '; both have to work before they receive the $1,200.00. Is this true? I am a stay at home Mom with no income but still file jointly. I am confused.$600 for individuals, $1200 for WORKING couples. Do both have to work?
You and me and everyone else is ahead of the game. What we have is still working documents, yes the house seems to have something final to vote on, but then comes the senate and anything can happen....they will want to include or take away something...so my best advise is that you dont take any advise that you get here....wait, like me that we have something final and in the presidents hand for signature....it will then be in all internet sites, including the house, senate and in every newspaper in the nation for us to read....and not guess or what someone says....$600 for individuals, $1200 for WORKING couples. Do both have to work?
A long as you file jointly, it is 1200.00. Howeverrr, I looked up in the irs web site and it is pending - more then linkely they will find a way to adjust it...
Nothing is certain at this point. The bill still has to get through the senate, and God knows what kind of a f#%%26amp;*%26amp;d up mess it'll be before it gets sent to President Bush for signature.

Consider the bill was written by congress, and they aren't much better.

be patient. That's all I can say at this time.
Don't count on the amounts quoted today. The Senate wants to add retirees and unemployed people. The amount will have to come down to pay for it all.
No. You do not have to work to qualify for the tax rebate. Married couples filing jointly with incomes up to $150,000 will qualify for a rebate of between $600 and $1200. In addition, those who qualify for these rebates will receive an additional rebate of $300 for each child.

You and your husband will receive a minimum rebate of $600, and probably qualify for more than that.

Take care.
