Honestly, I think it's a dominance issue. In a straight white male society, the concept that two girls could love each other and be in a committed relationship without a male is just too much for society to handle. Two gay men can be seen as comical; but two lesbians challenges their hegemonic notions of what is right. For the record, I think both couples are cute ;-)
Good point but at least we get that. Female couples are more socially accepted by males all together.
